Although the road is open all day and night, winter storms may necessitate it being closed temporarily. The North and Northeast entrances remain closed. Winter: There is only one road open to wheeled vehicles and that is the road from the North Entrance at Gardiner, Montana to the Northeast Entrance at Silver Gate and Cooke City, Montana. Yellowstone’s West, South and East Entrances are open.All other park roads are closed to wheeled vehicles (cars, vans, motorcycles, etc.), and open to limited snowmobile and snowcoach travel from mid-December to mid-March. In November, all park roads close except from the North Entrance to Upper Mammoth Terrace and Mammoth via Tower Junction to Northeast Entrance. The road between Mammoth Hot Springs and the northeast entrance is the only park road typically open to regular traffic year-round, weather permitting (closes in winter east of Cooke City, MT). Fall: Roads close in October at Tower Fall to Canyon Junction and Long Lake.
